More About Us

At my current point in life, as a Fight Coordinator/Action Director, I lead teams of stunt people and Actors with martial art skills for film, where I focus on serving the story, the script, and the team. I coach stunt and fight folks, ensuring that the fight scenes are not only visually impressive but also serve the narrative and character development. My goal is to create fight sequences that are not just thrilling to watch but also meaningful and integral to the story being told. The focus is more on the fights.

Welcome to Action Directing, Fight Coordinator & First A.D.

Welcome to the exhilarating realm of martial arts mastery and cinematic combat choreography. I am Mario D. Leone, a Fight Choreographer, infusing a wealth of expertise into the creation of high-octane storytelling. Trained under the esteemed Phillipe Deseck, celebrated for his contributions to iconic productions like Mortal Kombat and Aquaman, I have refined my skills in crafting visually striking and authentic fight sequences. I have had many instructors over the years. I first got my start before the Pandemic with Drew Leary (Gotham/I am Legend) Drew introduced me to the art and I have been training with multiple people since.

A proud graduate of New York University with a background in Film Studies and Directing, I seamlessly collaborate with Directors, utilizing my experience as a First Assistant Director (First A.D.) to ensure smooth rehearsals and effective communication across the entire production team.

My journey extends into the heart of Filipino Martial Arts, specializing in Stick, Knife, and Gun disarms. Drawing from a diverse background, I have immersed myself in various martial arts disciplines, studying Close Quarter Combat and Filipino Combatives under the guidance of the esteemed Hock Hocheim, and acquiring expertise in tactical applications and combat strategies with Officer Geoff Laun in Dallas, Texas. Proficient in working with an array of weapons for film, including Sword, Knife, Tomahawk, Bullwhip, Karambit, and more, I bring a comprehensive skill set to the cinematic arena.

As a Fight Choreographer, my role is distinct yet equally pivotal in the creation of compelling action sequences. Collaborating closely with stunt performers, I design movements, coordinate flow, and ensure the visual impact aligns seamlessly with the Director's vision. My expertise lies in translating scripted action into dynamic and visually engaging performances, orchestrating the dance of combat to contribute significantly to the success and authenticity of on-screen action.

Beyond the traditional, my training incorporates the fluidity of Tai Chi Chuan, and I cross-train with instructors across different disciplines. As an instructor myself, specializing in Unarmed Combatives and Filipino Archipelago Combative techniques, I bring a unique blend of traditional and modern martial arts knowledge to every project. With exposure to various martial arts disciplines like Kajukenbo, JKD, Chow Gar Mantis, Panatukan Filipino Boxing, Baraw, Silat, Yoshin Jiu Jitsu, Aiki-Jutsu, and Modern Arnis, Filipino Combatives remains my primary focus.

Rehearsals are a crucial cornerstone in the creation of riveting and safe action sequences. As a First A.D. with a background in Film from N.Y.U., I understand the importance of meticulous preparation and coordination. Rehearsal time serves not only as a training ground for stunt performers but also as an invaluable process for actors. For stunt professionals, rehearsals are essential for mastering choreography and refining physical techniques. Simultaneously, for actors, rehearsals provide a unique opportunity to authentically embody their characters within the context of intense physical engagements. This synergy ensures safety, elevates on-screen action, and results in a captivating viewing experience for the audience, all while keeping the production on schedule and aligned with the Director's vision.
